Winter brings with it the problem of the dry flaky skin caused by the cold air that removed skin moisture. There are also other factors responsible for dry skin.
It can be a result of some serious illness or disease but more commonly the environmental factors are the cause of dry chapped skin.
But there are plenty of ways to restore moisture to the skin by using home remedies for extremely dry skin. A few of them are listed below:
Coconut And Banana Mask:
Coconut oil is smooth and can easily fill up the pores and dry skin patches making them smooth by adding moisture to hydrate them. It is also good for sensitive skin and could be used on daily basis.
Banana is also known for its moisturizing properties. The fats that are found in the banana also give conditioning to the skin making it smooth.
For preparing this mask, you will need one tablespoon of coconut oil and half a ripe banana.
First of all, mash the banana properly and then stir it in the coconut oil until a smooth paste is formed. Apply the paste on your face and leave it up to 20 minutes. Later, rinse it off with water. You can use this mask once or even twice a week.
Olive Oil Is One Of The Best Home Remedies For Extremely Dry Skin:
Olive oil consists of moisturizing properties, fatty acids, and antioxidants which are all good for smooth, glowing and healthy skin.
It conditions and nourishes the skin by reversing the damage caused to the skin by the sun.
Apply some olive oil half an hour before the shower in the places where you have dry skin. Apply a moisturizer after the shower. OR, add lavender oil in the olive oil and mix it well.
Apply the mixture onto your skin and wipe off the excess. The Olive- lavender oil concoction can take the place of the moisturizer. It can be used on daily basis.
Yogurt:
Dry skin is sensitive so it is advisable to use gentle scrubs and massage in order to not aggravate the skin more than it already is.
The anti-inflammatory properties of the yogurt help in soothing the dry itchy skin. Yogurt is a great hydrant containing antioxidants and lactic acid that treat the dryness of the skin by exfoliating
Gently massage your skin with yogurt. Leave it for about 10 minutes and take a bath or shower later. It can be done once daily.
OR, Add 3 teaspoonful of honey to one-fourth cup yogurt and stir. Add 3 tablespoonful of granulated sugar too. Apply the mixture on the skin using a gentle circular massage either by hand r you can use a brush.
Leave it for about 5 minutes and rinse it off with cold water later. Honey is for hydrating the skin while the sugar works on the skin flakiness. This is another home remedy that really works well for all skin types.
Milk:
Another one of the home remedies for extremely dry skin is milk.
Milk works as a soothing agent for dry chapped skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and the lactic acid present in it helps to moisturize the skin and keep it hydrated. It also helps lighten the complexion.
You can use the cold milk as well as the warm milk as home remedies to fight dry skin.
Use the washcloth soaked in cold milk and keep it on the skin for over 5 minutes. Wash it off gently with lukewarm water using a cloth. It can be done daily.
OR, Boil some milk until it thickens and allows it cool down. Apply it on the skin and leave it to dry out. Wash it off with water.
This remedy can be used once or twice daily. You can also add few drops of rose water before applying milk on the skin.
Besides milk, the milk cream has its own advantages when it comes to dry skin. It is good for exfoliation as it has lactic acid. It is an excellent moisturizer and it helps preserve the pH levels of the skin.
Apply a mixture of one teaspoon milk, few drops of lemon and 2 teaspoons of milk cream on the skin. Leave it there for some time before taking a shower. It can be done daily.
OR, mix 3-4 tablespoon of gram flour and milk cream to form a thick paste. Apply it on the skin and leave it there for about 15 minutes. Wash it off later with lukewarm water. It can be done once daily
Avocado-Honey Pack:
Avocado is useful in treating the severe cases of dry skin as it is rich with natural oil and moisturizers.
Vitamin and A and E help in maintaining the health of the skin. The avocado paste can be applied on the dry skin to give it nourishment.
Mix a half of mashed avocado and one fourth cup honey in a bowl to make a smooth thick paste if you want home remedies for extremely dry skin. Apply the paste on your face and leave it for about 15 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. It can be used once or twice a week.
