The chemicals used in these peels are different acids that are safe for skin treatments. Alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid are some common ones used in this process. These are mild enough to use at home. However, they could also be used in professional treatments. Another acid that can serve the same function is a beta-hydroxy acid such as salicylic acid. This acid is a common ingredient in acne solutions. Salicylic acid is another mild one that can also be used in clinical settings.

The strongest type of peel is the phenol peel. This type of peel has to be applied by a professional because it has the ability to remove even deep wrinkles not just age spots.

The acids are then applied on the area and left on for a period depending on what is needed to achieve the results. There might be a burning sensation. At times, cool compresses are used to reduce this feeling.

After a chemical peel, the skin usually turns red, then peels for up to seven days. Stronger peels can cause more severe reactions. Mild peels can be repeated closely together than the harsher peels. Check with a professional to see how often you should have a peel treatment for your skin problem.

After any of the peels, you should stay away from too much sun because the new skin is quite tender and is still sensitive. Dont forget to apply good sunscreen when going outside and a hat will help even more.

      Hello Carol

Thanks for stopping by,I do advice to get a “top up” when doing microdermabrasion atleast every week, but then this may be costly if you`re having it done at the salon, for this reason, it`s more cost effective to have a microdermabrasion machine as it soon proves cheaper.

There are home microdermabrasion machines you can buy and they are not overly expensive.
